In just four days, Shore Thing has gone from a floating idea to a fully activated, joy-filled gathering place on Pittsburgh’s riverfront. Pittsburgh, we here at Riverlife are overwhelmed (in the best way) by the response.
From our soft opening over the weekend to our official kickoff on July 1, we’ve seen you show up: for the views, the beers, the yoga, the music, the curiosity. We’ve watched you lounge in the sun, catch up with friends, take selfies at sunset, ask good questions, and linger longer than you thought you would. You came to hang out. You came to celebrate. You came to gather down by the rivers.
This is exactly what we hoped for, and more.
Built for You
When we set out to design Shore Thing, we knew what Pittsburgh had asked for, and we think that this experience delivers what could be possible. A space that feels easy. Unexpected. Playful. And most of all, shared.
It’s been amazing to see people from all over Pittsburgh step aboard and make it their own. Families with kids. Cyclists stopping by for a cold one. Friends making this the gathering spot. Solo visitors finding a quiet spot to read a book. This is what happens when you create public space with people at the center.
A Few Friendly Reminders
Here’s what to know before you float:
Bikes Stop Here
We love that you’re rolling up to join us, but to keep the dock fully accessible, please lock up your bike before coming down to the dock. You’ll find racks:
- by River Rescue/PNC Park, just under the Roberto Clemente Bridge
- up on Allegheny Landing
Thanks for helping us keep the dock clear and cruisable.
Restrooms? We’ve Got You
Look, they’re not fancy—but they work. You’ll find porta-potties tucked under the Clemente Bridge, just a few steps from the dock.
Picnics Welcome, Outside Alcohol Not So Much
Shore Thing is imagined as a public open space, and that means you’re welcome to bring your own snacks or picnic spread.
Outside alcohol is not permitted. Don’t worry—our friends at BG Brewing have you covered with a rotating menu of cold beer, tasty drinks, and solid snacks. And when you get BG to pour you a cold one, you need to finish it on board.
Weather Happens
If there’s lightning in the area, we’ll temporarily clear the barge until it’s safe to reopen. If skies look dicey, check our social media for updates before you head down.
Free & First-Come
Entry is free, but space is limited. During busy times, you might experience a short wait. We appreciate your patience—the views are worth it.
Come Float With Us
