Attack Theatre will premiere “Some Assembly Required: The River”, an improvisational, community-driven performance with live music that integrates audience reflections on the environment that envelops the barge, and community artifacts (objects, memories and creations that hold significance for the audience) into a dynamic, site-responsive work. Musicians and dancers will engage directly with the riverfront environment, creating a unique and ephemeral experience shaped by the individuality and diversity of people and place, and inspired by the river.
Founded in 1994 by Michele de la Reza and Peter Kope as a collaboration between two dancers and a city, Attack Theatre fuses modern dance, original live music, and interdisciplinary art forms to create engaging dance performances. Learn more about our performances, classes, and events at www.attacktheatre.com Simon Cummings (Cellist) Simon J.C. Cummings is an active cellist, composer and teacher based in Pittsburgh, PA. After graduating from the Pittsburgh High School for Creative and Performing Arts, he attended Carnegie Mellon University and received his BFA in Cello Performance in 2008. Mr. Cummings is a founding cellist and composer in the cross-genre cello ensemble, Cello Fury. With Cello Fury, Mr. Cummings has composed and recorded three full length albums and toured extensively for the past 17 years. Mr. Cummings currently collaborates with other numerous Pittsburgh based cultural groups as a composer and performer, such as Texture Contemporary Ballet, Attack Theatre, Resonance Works, Bricolage Production Company, The Pittsburgh Playhouse, and Quantum Theatre. In addition to his performance career, Mr. Cummings is the Strings/Music Teacher at The Ellis School, an all-ages private school for girls. Mr. Cummings is the director of the Ellis after-school music program, the Ellis Music Academy, and maintains a large studio of private cello students at Ellis and in addition to his students at the Pittsburgh Cello Studio. In the summers, Mr. Cummings co-directs Cello Fury Rock Camp for Strings, a summer music program that teaches alternative string music to children.
