Participants will explore the same materials and techniques used in the installation\, including selecting\, cutting\, and assembling discarded plastics into original artworks to take home.   \nWith design options for varying skill levels\, this workshop offers a firsthand introduction to La Vispera’s creative process and sustainable approach to artmaking.  \nThis workshop is part of the Pittsburgh Creative Corps artist program series\, presented by Shiftworks Community + Public Arts and made possible by the City of Pittsburgh’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Arts Programming initiative. For more info\, visit: pittsburghcreativecorps.org.  \nAbout the Artist \nLa Vispera is an art collective between Kelly Jimenez and Alejandro Franco\, both Colombian artists who specialize in creating highly crafted works of art using discarded materials. Our repertoire includes stop-motion animation\, photography\, sculptures\, and\, predominantly\, stained glass windows made from single-use plastic. \nAs nature enthusiasts\, we continually strive to bring environmental issues to the forefront of our art. Our stained glass pieces are a testament to our commitment to this cause. Through the use of the material’s translucency and color variations\, we have transformed what is typically a transient and detrimental substance into something of great beauty that we consider worth preserving.  \nRegistration is required below.

DESCRIPTION:Jake Barney (They/Them) known by their stage name: Senseishun – is a Queer\, Non-Binary\, Filipino artist\, activist\, and DJ hailing from Pittsburgh\, PA. \nThey started spinning records in 2009 after being heavily influenced by the local rave and renegade scene. Over the years\, they have evolved their style to be more Open Format. They pride their self on their ability to take listeners on a journey through sound\, utilizing a plethora of different genres and styles; from deep melodic House to gnarly Drum & Bass to Hip-Hop\, Emo\, R&B\, Pop\, and everything in between. \nAfter a few year hiatus\, they returned to DJing in 2016 and have now played at and organized many successful dance nights at Pittsburgh’s most noteworthy clubs & venues. This includes popular local spots like Spirit\, Brillobox\, Club Cafe\, and Cobra – as well as larger stages in front of massive crowds like The Pittsburgh 5K Marathon and the Main Stage at Pittsburgh Pride Revolution Festival. \nMost recently\, they locked down a DJ Residency at Club Cafe with their friend and business partner Tony Resch (aka Royal Haunts) and will be hosting monthly dance nights there starting later this year. Moving forward\, their goal is to play shows and festivals across the country both solo and with their drummer\, Jordan Bosland. Together\, they are Villainous Tempo\, and they are the 2025 National Champions of the Crash the Decks Drummer/DJ Tournament.

This event is part of the Shore Thing Performing Arts Series presented by The Charity Randall Foundation. jazzjAM is supported by Citizens. \nAnita Levels \nAnita Levels is a vocal artist\, and vocal instructor who began singing at the age of 4 years old in Frankfurt\, West Germany. \nTexas-born\, preacher’s kid\, and member of a musical family from New Orleans\, singing and performance are in her blood. \nAnita’s powerhouse\, soulful\, lark-like vocals have graced national and international audiences. She has performed in London\, England\, has toured the country of Holland with world renowned ethnomusicologist\, Dr. Portia Maultsby\, was featured in the NFL’s Super Bowl 50th commemorative commercial\, has performed in the Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival\, and also with the Pittsburgh Jazz Orchestra. \nAnita’s core teaching passion centers around advocating for the Black historical genres of American Music.  Anita grew up in the tradition of Black American Music shares from its methods of performance\, resonance\, stylings and projections. \nAnita has a plethora of original music on all streaming music platforms\, has a Masters Degree in Training and Development with a more recent venture of a podcast entitled\, Corn and Potatoes Are Good For You\, exploring the soul’s journey within this destination called “Earth”. \nShe’s a Mother of two inquisitive daughters and hopes to always spontaneously sing\, laugh out loud and cultivate spaces for communication and thought.

SUMMARY:Puppet-Making Workshop with Cheryl Capezzuti
DESCRIPTION:Join artist Cheryl Capezzuti on Sunday\, September 20 for a community puppet-making workshop on Shore Thing\, where participants will create approximately ten backpack-style puppets inspired by river creatures and other things that live in and around Pittsburgh’s waterways. These puppets will become part of the collection available for participants to wear during the River Revel at Riverlife’s annual Last Splash event on October 10th.\n\nRiver Revel at Last Splash is a participatory celebration of Pittsburgh’s rivers through puppetry\, pageantry\, music\, making\, and collective play. Developed by Cheryl and Shiftworks Community + Public Arts in collaboration with Riverlife\, River Revel will culminate on Saturday\, October 10\, 2026\, as part of Riverlife’s annual Last Splash event at Shore Thing\, where attendees will have the opportunity to create and try-on puppets and to join the Great River Creature Parade.\n\nThis workshop is open to all ages.

DESCRIPTION:True T PGH is a pioneering Pittsburgh organization rooted in ballroom and vogue culture\, sitting at the intersection of health and wellness\, social activism\, and arts presentation. Founded in 2010 by Duane Binion and John Easter III\, True T has grown from a celebration of queer creative expression into a cornerstone community institution for LGBTQIA+ people of color. In collaboration with Project Blue Space\, True T At The Water’s Edge brings that legacy to the riverfront\, honoring a long tradition of water as a place where queer communities have gathered\, danced\, and celebrated together. The program features an introductory vogue performance instruction by Hazel Azzer\, a DJ set by Queen Fatha (London Pierre Williams)\, and a performance by Pittsburgh native Manny Dibiachi\, a rapper\, singer\, and songwriter whose sound draws directly from the house music pioneers of the Black and queer club scene. Come to the water. Come as you are.\n \nFounded by artist Shikeith\, Project Blue Space is an interdisciplinary initiative exploring Black diasporic connections to water through research\, art\, and public programming\, starting with Pittsburgh’s three rivers.

SUMMARY:Sounds on the Shore w/ Clara Kent
DESCRIPTION:Clara Kent is an Afro-Indigenous (Oglala Lakota & Ojibwe) multidisciplinary artist\, entrepreneur\, and community leader from Pittsburgh\, Pa’s Homewood community. Clara is best known for her music and dynamic performances\, but also utilizes various forms of expression within visual art and media. She focuses her artistry on uplifting the creative community and reclaiming indigenous roots\, particularly for underserved Black artists and youth in her neighborhood. \nKent began her independent artist journey in 2017 with the release of her first album\, “AURA”\, a vaporwave neo-soul project written and produced by Clara and beatmaker Yorel Tifsim. The album focused on the Hero’s Journey and the power of reclaiming your authentic self when obstacles arise. “AURA” was very well received\, leading to the self-proclaimed “Multidimensional Artistic Individual” being named Pittsburgh City Paper’s “Person of the Year” for Music in 2019\, and has performed across the country\, opening for Wyclef Jean at SXSW\, Cautious Clay at WYEP Summerfest\, Thundercat at Stage AE\, Nnamdi\, Oshun\,  Jon Wayne\, Mumufresh\, The O’My’s\,  and OHMME. Clara embarked on a summer tour in 2019 with London-based music events company Sofar Sounds\, becoming one of their cohort performance artists alongside acts like Moses Sumney\, Lianne La Havas\, and Yebba. \nSince then\, Clara Kent has expanded her career into media and entrepreneurial ventures\, while continuing to create music and advocate for other Black and Indigenous creatives. In 2022\, she began hosting a radio show on WYEP called “More Bounce with Clara Kent\,” managing the Alt-Funk band Mani Bahia & The Mob. Also\, she launched her production company\, Bounce House Studios & Productions LLC\, a Black women-led organization whose purpose is to “Elevate the Underground” ™️ through free programming and donation-based events for BIPOC artists. One of the first music projects released was The Four Winds: EAST\, Part One of “THE FOUR WINDS” series. The Four Winds series honors her Afro-Indigenous heritage and was intentionally released on Juneteenth in 2023 to raise awareness of the intersection of African American and Native American presence and cultural contributions in music and culture. The EP was well-received and was named “Best of Soul” by Bandcamp Daily in 2023 and was featured on 90.5 WESA\, Pittsburgh’s NPR station. In 2024\, Clara was nominated and selected as an official Voting Member of the Recording Academy for the Grammy Awards\, recognized for years of community work\, artistic excellence\, and consistent advocacy for musicians in the industry. Kent is currently preparing to launch new projects and music events under the Bounce House brand\, starting late summer of 2026. \nClara’s mission is to connect people to their hearts\, their communities\, and the planet\, one song\, painting\, and creative collaboration at a time. Her vision is that people recognize the importance of their emotions and learn to embrace them\, thereby creating a compassionate and supportive world for everyone. She hopes that with her gifts and connection to her ancestors and nature\, she’ll be a vessel for Great Spirit to heal and transmute heaviness into light for those who connect to her artistry.
