SUMMARY:A Kayaking Thing
DESCRIPTION:Venture Outdoors and Riverlife have both been dedicated to riverfront activation for over two decades! Join representatives from both organizations on this paddle around the Three Rivers.  Together we will see the landmarks of Pittsburgh’s riverfront spaces. \nFollowing the paddle\, participants will land at the 6th Street Public Boat ramp (across the river from the Venture Outdoors dock) and travel to Shore Thing for after paddle fellowship. Paddlers then have the option to return to the Venture Outdoors dock by kayak or depart from Shore Thing. \nTrip Leaders\nTrained Kayak Pittsburgh Excursionists will go over how to use common kayaking gear on land and then will guide the group on the water. \nActivity level\nBeginner – This is a slow paced\, introductory paddle designed for kayakers with little to no experience. If you are hesitant to paddle on the river\, check out Venture Outdoors’ events at North Park or Beginner River Paddles. \nAge requirements\nAll paddlers are required to be at least 35lbs and 3 years of age. Anyone under the age of 13 MUST be in a tandem kayak with an adult. Each paddler must still have their own ticket. \nDistance\nParticipants can expect to cover roughly 1-1.5 miles on the river. \nWhat’s included \n\nProfessional Guide\nRental equipment if not providing your own\nMeal at Shore Thing following the paddle!\n\nRegistration is required at this link. Space is limited\, and we will likely reach capacity.

SUMMARY:Worldwide Day of Play!
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the joy of active learning with us during this exciting global event! Bring your kids\, or just your inner child for a fun-filled day featuring: \nKamin Science Center: Energy Stack Challenge 12-4pm \nUse a giant Jenga tower to simulate our energy grid. Be careful balancing the grid – if it falls\, you will cause a blackout! \nMad Science: Watts-Up! \nThis is the moment to discover the world of static electricity! Kids see sparks fly from an electrostatic machine—the Van de Graaff generator. They learn the basic properties of an electric charge\, and find ways to distinguish between static electricity and electrical current. They learn to generate static to test the movement of electrons on everyday objects. \nThe Citizen Science Lab: Colorful Chemistry 3-4pm \nIt’s a rule as old as time: Energy can neither be created nor destroyed. So where does that energy go? This program will demonstrate to students that energy has to go somewhere – not be lost forever. What object can act like a solid and a liquid at the same time? – Presented by Covestro. \nHop x Hustle: Nostalgia Playground Experience 2-4pm \nAn interactive kids and family area featuring jump rope\, creative hopscotch paths\, and guided mini challenges. Facilitator – Brandey Smith will guide rhythm-based jump rope moments and group participation to bring the crowd together.\nIn collaboration with Nickelodeon and the Association of Children’s Museums.
